David S. Cargo's Class Notes for Bread Like No Other

Class Information

Class Location

The class will be at the Saint Francis Liberal Catholic Church located at 3201 Pleasant Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN.

The whole church is run by unpaid volunteers. I’m the volunteer editor, web master, and baker.

Your contribution for this class is voluntary. However, I hope that you will find the class of value and make a donation to the church comparable to what you might pay for a similar class elsewhere. (However, I don’t expect you to pay more than you feel comfortable paying. Let your conscience be your guide.)

You can make checks out to the “Church of St. Francis.” (These are tax-deductible donations.)

Class Times

Class will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Class should finish by 5 p.m. (Depending on the kind of breads we make, it might be over sooner.)

What You Should Bring

  1. A large mixing bowl and a large mixing spoon.
  2. Loaf pans, if you have them.
  3. Kitchen timers, if you have them.
  4. Something to take notes with.
  5. Something to carry home a warm loaf of bread and other goodies.
  6. For the sweet dough class only, bring a 9-inch by 13-inch pan.

We will probably eat samples of some of the things we bake, so I suggest having a light lunch before hand.

What You Don’t Have to Bring

I will provide flour, wet ingredients, yeast, and salt.

If you have any optional ingredients you want to incorporate into your bread, feel free to bring them.

What You Should Do to Prepare

Reading the pages of this web site would be useful, since it sets the background and covers some theory that I might not be able to cover in class.

I plan to leave this site up indefinitely, so it might change over time and act as an ongoing reference.
